A practical playbook

JVs & Partnerships

Team up with people your clients already trust.

The idea

What a JV actually is

JV = joint venture, a fancy word for teaming up. A collaboration can be a joint workshop, guest teaching, an interview, or a shoutout.

Your Dream 100 is the list of people and rooms your future clients already trust. Team up with someone on that list, and some of their trust rubs off on you too.

Lesson 1

Find your Dream 100

Dream 100 is the name for the idea. You do not need 100 names to start. Begin with your first 10. The list can grow later, once the first 10 feel natural.

Where to look for your first 10

  • The websites they already visit
  • The Facebook groups or Discord servers they hang out in
  • The people and pages they already follow
  • The podcasts, newsletters, or YouTube channels they subscribe to
  • The exact words they type into Google when they have this problem

Sort your list 3 ways

Intention

Learning and growth, referrals and networks, or peer exchange.

Priority

Crucial, middle, or not a priority right now.

Relationship quality

How strong the relationship already is. Use Marc's own guide below.

Relationship Quality Guide chart for scoring how strong each Dream 100 relationship already is.
Marc's own Relationship Quality Guide, for scoring how strong each relationship already is.

Dig the well before you're thirsty

This is an old saying, and it fits perfectly here. Do not wait until you need something to reach out. Build the relationship long before you need anything from it. People can feel it when you only show up to ask.

Output: your first 10 names, sorted by relationship quality.

Lesson 2

Add value first

The rule that matters most: give before you ask, and never keep score.

3 levels of value you can give

Personal: health, relationships, deeper support
Professional: useful work, referrals, recommendations
Universal: a genuine compliment, celebration, admiration

8 places to look for what they actually care about

The Currency Wheel diagram showing 8 ways to add value: professional growth, financial success, health and wellness, deep relationships, intellectual stimulation, spirituality, philanthropy, and gifts.
Marc's own Currency Wheel.
  • Professional growth: sales, hiring, marketing, referrals
  • Financial success: investments, deals, recommendations
  • Health and wellness: food, gyms, rest
  • Deep relationships: date ideas, family time
  • Intellectual growth: books, mental models, content
  • Spirituality: meditation, faith, reflection
  • Philanthropy: causes, charities
  • Gifts: celebrations, birthdays

What Marc did to build his own Dream 100

  • Interviewed people for his YouTube show
  • Volunteered as a speaker, emcee, or coach for their events
  • Promoted their stuff without being asked
  • Shared his lessons after learning from them, and tagged them
  • Sent seasonal greetings and useful resources
  • Helped with productivity or focus, in his own area of strength
  • Referred them business
A move Marc still uses

Giving them a shoutout by writing a testimonial post in their community.

It costs you a few minutes. It is one of the fastest ways to get noticed by someone new.

A 2-minute daily habit: Marc randomly messages 3 people a word of gratitude every day. It makes their day, and it costs you almost nothing.

Output: one honest value deposit for each of your first 10, given without expecting anything back.

Lesson 3

Invite the collaboration

You do not need a perfect relationship before you ask. Watch for these signs instead.

3 signs it's the right time to ask

  • They have already interacted with you more than once
  • They start responding to your content
  • They have used your product or service before

6 types of collaboration to invite

  • An interview, either way
  • A joint workshop or event
  • A free sharing for their community, or yours
  • Offering your paid or free stuff to each other's people
  • Referring each other business
  • A shoutout or feature

The 6 parts of a good invitation

1

Introduction and personal connection

Say hi, introduce yourself, and show you already know who they are.

"Hey [Name], hope all has been well! I've been following your work on [specific topic]."

2

The ask

Make your one ask in a single clear sentence. Do not talk around it.

"Would you like some support on [benefit], for free?"

3

Context and details

Explain why you are asking and what they can expect.

"I want to bring more value to the [industry] space, and I would love your insights."

4

Credibility

Share real proof that makes it easy to trust you.

"I have worked with [X] people like you and helped them [result]."

5

Acknowledge and benefit

Name their likely hesitation, then show the upside for them.

"I understand you are busy, which is why this will only take about 30 minutes."

6

CTA and sign off

Tell them exactly how to respond, then end on a warm note.

"If you are keen, just reply yes and I will send the details. Thanks in advance and have a great week ahead."

Output: one invitation, written and sent in your own words.

These are Marc's own words. Copy the shape, then change every bracket to fit your real relationship. None of these prove performance on their own.

Quick Catchup

Ask for a quick, no-agenda catchup before you ask for anything bigger. This works best once they already know you a little.

Hey [Name], hope you've been doing well! My name is Marc, and I'm the founder of Master Implementers, where we help entrepreneurs build successful lifestyle businesses. I've been following your updates and love seeing your work on [specific topic or project]. Your recent post about [specific detail] caught my attention and since we are in a similar space, I thought it'll be great if we do a quick catch-up soon! I was wondering if you'd be up for a quick coffee catch-up sometime next week? I'd love to hear what you've been up to and exchange some ideas too. If you're up for it, would you be free next Thursday or Friday at about 3pm in the town area, or feel free to suggest another time that works for you too. Thanks, and look forward to catching up soon!

Present Your JV Idea

Pitch the actual collaboration once you already have some rapport.

Hey [Name], hope all has been well! Was curious if you would like to do a quick win-win collab together. I am thinking we could feature one another. For example, I could feature you on [their topic], and you could feature me on [your topic]. If you would rather do a training or interview instead, I am happy to offer that too. CTA wise, I can simply invite your audience to subscribe to my newsletter, or if you would like me to offer a low ticket workshop, I can do that too. Whatever you feel is best for you. Let me know if you want more details or to discuss further. Want to make sure it is win-win for both of us.

Adapt every number and date to your own real plan. Marc's original had specific split percentages and dates that only applied to his own campaign at the time, so they are left out here.

Work for Free

Help someone for free to get your first foot in the door. This can build a portfolio, build your credibility, and build a real connection. Marc recommends this most if you are new or just starting out.

No verified script example for this exact format made it into this playbook. Build your own using the 6 building blocks above, or adapt the Quick Catchup script and swap the ask for an offer to help them for free.

Interviews Easiest first move

Marc calls this his easiest first collaboration move. Ask to interview them. It costs them nothing to say yes.

Hey [Name], hope all has been well! I've been following you for the past 6 months on [platform] and have picked up so many valuable insights on [topic]. I particularly liked your post on [specific] which really helped me to [specific benefit]. Anyway, I understand you must be busy, but I'm writing to ask if I could feature you on my interview series? So far I've interviewed [X]+ guests, with [Y]+ subscribers. Personally I'm doing this because I love that you stand for [their mission], and I want to do my part to help [audience]. Interview takes 30 to 45 minutes. I'll share the questions and other details beforehand. If you're keen, perhaps you could connect me with your assistant for timings, or just let me know if you have any questions. Either way, thanks so much, and have a great week ahead!

From Marc's own material. Swap in your own real numbers, or drop that line completely if you are just starting out.

Direct Offer

For people who do not know you yet. This is the one script built for cold outreach too.

Subject line: Proposal for [Company Name] to [dream outcome], risk-free Hi [Name], Pleased to be connected here. My name is [Your Name] and my company specialises in [what you do] for [who you help]. We have been in the space for [X] years. I am reaching out because we are collecting more case studies for a strategy that has been getting promising results, and I wanted to ask if you would like us to help you grow, where you only pay if you see results? This strategy has helped other people to: 1. Make it easy for new people to sign up 2. Generate more leads without creating anything new 3. Get more calls and clients 4. Learn more about their ideal audience 5. Make it easy for referral partners to send new clients 6. Add value for their current audience either way If you would like, happy to hop on a quick call to show you exactly how it works. If you are keen, simply reply yes and I will send more details. Thanks in advance, and have an amazing week ahead! - [Your Name]

Adapt every number to your own verified results. Marc's original included specific figures from his own business at the time, so they are left out here.

Optional AI step

Optional: let AI walk you through JVs & Partnerships

Chosen this path? Copy the box below and paste it into ChatGPT or Claude. It will coach you through your first real moves. This is optional; the steps above are complete on their own.

You do not need to read it. Just copy, paste, and answer its questions.

You are my business coach. I have chosen JVs (Joint Ventures) and Partnerships as my path: teaming up with people who already serve my kind of clients. Your job: help me run it, step by step. Be warm but direct, plain English, no jargon, keep every message short. Ask one question at a time and wait. If any answer is vague, ask one short follow-up. I send every message myself; you help me prepare.

Ask me, one at a time:
1. Who do I help, and with what result?
2. Who already serves my kind of clients without competing with me? Think coaches, trainers, service providers, community hosts, content creators. (Name up to 10; even 3 is fine to start.)
3. Which of these people do I already know, even loosely?
4. What could I genuinely give first: a shoutout, a testimonial post, an introduction, help with something they are working on?

Then help me, one piece at a time:
- Build my list ranked by warmth (people I know first, strangers last), using only the names I actually gave you, even if that's fewer than 10.
- For my top 2: suggest one value-first move each that costs nothing and feels natural, like a genuine shoutout or testimonial post in their community.
- Draft that value-first message or post in my voice. No ask in it at all.
- Only after I have given value and they responded warmly: draft the collaboration invite (a joint workshop, guest teaching, an interview, or a swap), short and easy to say no to.
- End with the rhythm: one relationship move per week, and after 30 days of doing this consistently, judge it: keep it, tweak it, or switch it.
If I try to pitch a collaboration to someone I have given nothing to, push back.

Before you judge it

Run it for 30 days.

Run it for 30 days consistently before you judge it. Then decide: keep it, tweak it, or switch it.

Real fit matters more than fame.
Give without keeping score. It is not a hidden bill.
You send it, you decide, you follow through.

Keep going

Build your first 10 now.

Start with the people you already know. Add value first. Then make one small ask, in your own words.
